Summer Strings Programme
July 30-August 3, 2018 from 10:00-11:30am
The International Symphony Orchestra is pleased to be sponsoring an Introductory Summer Strings Programme for ages five and above. Adults are also welcome to attend. Sessions will run July 30-August 3, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. each morning, and will include instruction in the beginning elements of string playing: sound production/notes; correct hand and finger position; posture etc. Accomplishments will be highlighted at a Graduation Recital, which will take place on the morning of August 3.
Participants may select either violin or cello, and instruments will be provided. Sessions will be held at 251 North Vidal Street, Sarnia (enter from Charlotte Street). A fee of $60 applies for the 5 classes, with some bursary assistance available depending on need. We also offer a Family Discount: $110 for 2 in a family; $150 for 3 in a family.
Violin students will be under the instruction of Stephen Collins, Director of the St. Cecilia Conservatory of Music, and International Symphony Orchestra violist. An accomplished violinist/violist, Collins has performed with numerous professional orchestras throughout Canada for the past 20 years. He has a solid background in teaching; holding a Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Victoria, B.C.
Cello students will be under the direction of ISO principal cellist, Barbara Armstrong. Barbara holds a Bachelor of Music in performance from the University of Regina, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario. Ms. Armstrong has been serving as principal cellist with the International Symphony Orchestra since 1982, and has been featured as soloist on many occasions. She has played professionally with orchestras in Regina, Saskatoon, Windsor, and London, in addition to the Canadian Opera Company.
